2024 Yard Sale

As we wrap up another year of our annual July 4th yard sale, we wanted to give you all a behind the scenes look at what it takes to make it happen.  This is our third year doing both the challenge walk and yard sale.   2022 The yard sale tradition actually started because of Tracey (Christa’s bestie and now a team member).  Tracey and her sister were clearing out and preparing to sell their childhood home after their father, Harvey, passed away in 2021.  So the idea was born that Christa and I could have a yard sale on July 4th at the house with everything left in the house to help with our fundraising in 2022.  As many of you may remember, I was skeptical that this would yield anything significant.  But boy was I pleasantly surprised when we raised $1,000 in 2022.   2023 In 2023, we joined the long running and popular Fulks Run Ruritan July 4th community yard sale.  We had another successful year and raised around $800.  We also walked...

3 Days 50 miles 2023!

I can't believe it has already been over 2 months since we walked in our 2nd MS Challenge Walk.  As promised, this is all about our 2023 experience.   We will each share a little bit about our personal experiences this year. Amanda If you had asked me before our first Cape Cod MS Challenge Walk in 2022 if we would return in 2023, I would have confidently said no. Over the last 25 years, we have walked various multi-day breast cancer walks and have never walked back-to-back years. Honestly, it usually takes us 4-5 years to decide it sounds like a good idea again. But this would change in just 3 short days in Cape Cod in 2022. Over the 3 days, we connected with a few veteran walkers. These veterans took us under their wings and made it a point to show us the ropes and truly make us feel like an important part of the Cape Cod MS family. We were asked multiple times over the weekend if we would return next year. And at the end of those 3 days in 2022, we knew we wanted to ret...

1 Week Away!!

Image
We are only 1 week away from the 2023 MS Challenge Walk!  The 3 of us are filled with anticipation, excitement and of course a little fear!   You can plan and prepare all you want, but until you start taking those steps you always have some reservations.  For me (Christa) I ask myself what I was thinking to sign up for this again?  But then this week comes the week of August 29-September 6th, and it is completely clear to me WHY!  This week is hard, it will always be hard, no matter how many years pass.  But as both mom and granny would have said, life goes on.  It doesn't stop and we have to somehow...figure out how to continue living in it.   So, for me this event gives us hope and pride.  Hope that one day there will be a cure for MS and pride in knowing that we are doing something to help!! So once again we are doing this thing!  If you would like to make a donation, click the link below.  If you would like to kee...

#MSAwarenessWeek

It's MS Awareness Week, did you know... Nearly 1 million people live with MS in the United States. More than 50% of people with MS experience a variety of changes in high-level brain functions including difficulty remembering, learning new information, organizing, problem solving, focusing and maintaining attention.  The risk of getting MS is higher for those who have a parent living with MS, but that risk is still pretty low.   There is no evidence that MS impairs fertility. Lemonade for Linda is working on some fundraising ideas, check out below how you can support!! Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!  We are collecting sneakers!  The condition does not matter!! Let us know if you have any you would like to donate, and we will take them off your hands!!  We have already sent off our first bag!!! #gotsneakers? Clean out your closets, cabinets and buildings!! We will be having a yard sale on July 4th, last year was such a success we decided to do it again.  So...

Our Story

Image
Some of you are very familiar with our story, but we wanted to share a brief timeline for those who don't know our why!   Amanda and I are sisters. Our mom Linda was diagnosed with MS in 1995.  I remember the very moment she was told, and she basically shrugged her shoulders and said OKAY.  Which was the way mom lived her entire life, with one of her famous saying "it could always be worse".  Life resumed as "normal" until it was no longer normal.  Dad was mom's caregiver and like mom, handled it like a champ.  Dad as a poker player would tell us "This is the hand we have been dealt so we will play with these cards and make the best of it" and that is what we did!!! Over the years mom began to experience more and more symptoms which lead her to retirement around 8 years after being diagnosed.  Mom was a nurse so sitting still was a big change for her, but again she didn't complain and just dealt with it.  Dad continued working and caring for ...
